Let users take a “snapshot” of a decklist that saves an archived version of their list in timestamped states that are linked to the main decklist page.
A user likes a decklist in its current form, but wants to make experimental changes that they may want to reverse later while not clogging their page up with another identitcal decklist. A user wants to archive what version of a deck they ran for a tournament. A tournament organizer requirs they be sent an archived decklist link for easier deckchecks by players. A content creator wants the original version of a deck saved for watchers while also featuring a timeline of changes that can be compared side-by-side instead of reconstructing the changes through the normal history page. A player wants to copy the decklist they found online (etiher verbatim or as the skeleton for their own deck) but the author made massive changes to the list in the interim; the player shouldn’t have to wade through tons of incremental changes in the history page to reconstruct the old version of the deck.
By allowing users to save a snapshot of their deck in its current state, they themselves or other users could see a deck’s state over time. They could find prefered versions of a list and have tournament-relevant versions saved for recordkeeping. All while users don’t have to take up extra space in their personal decklist page to save all the otherwise-redundant versions as separate decks.
The archived snapshots should preserve the Primer, descriptions, and tags. It should also have a feature to add notes to each snapshot. Users could record tournament dates, write patchnotes (which could also be its own feature separate from regular notes and primers) that detail the how’s and why’s of changes to one’s lists.
The archived lists could be presented as a dropdown box or as a calendar or timeline similar to internet archiving websites.
Further, let archiving be manual or automated with different options for how the user wants it to be done, like time thresholds for automatic snapshotting after editing a deck, or only allow automatic snapshotting when editing the main deck (not adding new versions when simply eiditing the sideboard and maybeboard) and only when a change is actually made (swapping the same card in and out of the list should not make a new entry).
